A Very Warm Welcome

A very warm welcome to the Wilding Wellness Blog!

Ever since I left University over 10 years ago (my goodness!) with a degree in Professional and Creative Writing, a blog is something I’ve always wanted to do. Now I’ve finally set up a space to do so. I can’t promise I’ll post all the time but I do hope you will enjoy my thoughts, rambles and writings. Blogs are a bit more intimate, aren’t they? So, I guess this will be an insight into the person at the front of the class, the person behind the table full of cards and the person over the therapy bed channelling healing energy.

It all actually started when I was a teenager and I received my first (Rider Waite) tarot deck. I was drawn in by the artwork and symbolism and began to devour as many books (I really like books!) as I could on the subject and using the tarot to guide me through life. As I got older, I also began to explore nature religions and immersed myself in a spirituality that seemed forgotten. But as I entered adulthood this seemed to set me apart from my peers and at that time it was too difficult to continue along this path. The tarot stayed with me, however as I strove to build myself  the semblance of a career. I was attracted to yoga at this time (and in many ways I was completely hooked!) but only as a means of  exercise. I married my soul mate and had three beautiful children but I found myself stuck in a job that was sucking my soul away.

Looking back, I don’t understand how I managed it, but I worked for a cosmetics company for almost a decade. I put up with belittling comments about my appearance and was taught pushy sales tactics to reach unachievable targets. The final straw was being pulled into a makeshift office to have a ‘recorded conversation’ about how it looked like I didn’t wash or brush my hair enough. I handed in my notice the next day. It was a scary decision because I had no idea what I was going to do but my husband supported me 100% and I became  a stay-at-home mum for a while, which was a natural step for me at that time in my life. It gave me the space to be with myself and actually figure out who I was.

Then of course, the pandemic hit and what an odd time that was! I was 3 months pregnant with my third child when, on my 32nd birthday, the lockdown in the UK was announced. Something happened during this time. I have known of others who have spoken about this, too: there was a shift somewhere and everything changed. It was a ‘felt’ thing that was subtle some days and like being hit by a bus on others but something shifted within me and that call to the nature religions came back full force. I began to drift back to my books (annoyingly having to repurchase all of those classics I had donated to charity years before) and it felt so very right.

All the while I kept up with yoga but it was around this time that I began to understand the connection to the practice and spirituality. For me, yoga opened channels in my mind that helped me perceive the world clearer and see the magic all around.  I qualified as a 200hr Yoga Alliance Teacher in June 2022 and since then I’ve also added a Reiki Level 2 certification. Reiki has come into my life fairly recently but again I was drawn to it organically and it has become my way of sharing the energies I work with everyday. I’m hoping to use this space, The Wilding Wellness Blog, to explore not just the practice of yoga but also spirituality and wellbeing in a more general sense and the approach to teaching that I feel drawn to.

So maybe stick around, join the mailing list or check back in for updates. You can find me on Instagram @wilding.wellness and Facebook @nell.wildingwellness where I will post all upcoming events.
